Painting the Night Sky
Legacy Seeds, Inc. wanted a "WOW!" landscape shot, and that was all they knew.

They had already rejected 6 designs from the other designers, so I was asked to step in and save the day again. Based off of their vague design request, I thought a sunset shot would be most awe-inspiring with all of the colors dancing in the sky. Unfortunately, Ag Printers does not have any great sunset shots in their image database, so I had to make one. It was a fun venture into digital painting and I was just as happy as the client with the finished result.

The best image in Ag Printers image database at the time was the shot to the right. With the rolling hills, I felt it was perfect to show the light fading over the horizon. A few shadows and layers later, I converted the shot to a scene just before sunset.

The client was so happy with the sunset shot that we used it for two additional books, multiple mailers and a showboard later that year. For the back cover I let the sun set behind the horizon for a nice, dark backdrop for their contact information.

They asked that the cover design be used in the spreads as well. Here is how I used them as a header/footer set.
